General

The Graduate Certificate in Accounting is designed for students with a degree in a field other than accounting who wish to obtain a sound introduction to accounting concepts and procedures.

Successful candidates may proceed to studies towards a Graduate Diploma in Accounting, which will then provide them with the basic requirement to obtain membership of the professional accounting bodies.

Course objectives

An introduction to Graduate Diploma/Master of Practising Accounting, accounting principles, theory, financial and management accounting for non-accounting graduates.

Entrance requirements

Normally applicants for this course require a pass degree in a non-accounting discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, plus a minimum of three years relevant experience. Applicants without a first degree who have at least six years appropriate employment experience should refer to the section on executive certificates.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Syme Department of Accounting as to the 1997 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Certificate in Accounting is normally completed in two semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

Classes are offered on-campus at the Caulfield campus in two block teaching sessions Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday at 6-10 pm and Saturday 9 am - 5 pm.

Credit for work done previously

Credit for previous study is not available in this course.
