Objectives On completion of the subject students will have explained the characteristics of the learning organisation and relate the process of organisational learning to change; evaluated various intervention strategies to promote and implement change; demonstrate competence in organisational diagnosis and planning by being able to develop and implement specific and strategic change interventions; developed the skills to critically evaluate and construct appropriate change policy especially as it relates to electronic commerce; practised the ability to critically analyse the effects of change generated by modern management theories such as best practice, excellent organisations, TQM, reengineering etc; a sound knowledge of the effects of organisational politics and business ethics on change intervention implementation.
Synopsis This subject builds upon the basic concepts and theories developed in GBU8059 (Change management and electronic commerce). This subject will firstly review the meaning of change and the theories that underpin the practice of change management. The emphasis throughout this course will be on the role of the `learning organisation' and the ways organisations can both promote and develop change through the learning process. This subject will examine the role of intervention in change, the learning organisation and the adoption of change in the virtual organisation practising electronic commerce; the diagnosis of change, planning change and electronic commerce policy development and implementation strategies; the role of interventions and intervention strategies in current change practices, reengineering, TQM, best practice, quality assurance etc; and change practice and interventions in relation to the politics of organisations, the role of ethics in business practice and the perceived need for change in organisations.
