Objectives On completion of the subject students should be able to evaluate applications of electronic commerce in selected small to medium enterprises, government and corporate sectors; identify those information technologies, systems and processes that are being successfully implemented in various types and levels of business; and analyse the barriers to successful implementation of electronic commerce technologies within selected industry sectors.
Synopsis Students will apply the basic concepts of electronic commerce, change management and information exchange processes in the context of Australian and international case studies which demonstrate various applications and electronic commerce processes. In module 1 students will evaluate the effectiveness of electronic purchasing, supply-chain management and customer-supplier relationships and electronic commerce agreements. Module 2 examines the applications of electronic commerce in the banking industry, specifically money creation, cyber cash and electronic payment systems, Smart Cards and stored value cards. Module 3 concentrates on applications of electronic commerce via the Internet and the new business opportunities that creates. In module 4 students will evaluate a comprehensive electronic commerce implementation in an Australian multinational, BHP.
