Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the roles and responsibilities of boards with the not-for-profit sector; be aware of strategies for management of board; appreciate the scope and nature of the legal framework in which not-for-profit organisation operate; understand the legal duties of boards, managers and staff of not-for-profit organisations and the legal entitlements of their clients.
Synopsis Topics include the roles, responsibilities, composition and functions of boards and the management challenges presented by these; the legal framework in which not-for-profit organisations operate and their implications for management, including incorporation, director's duties, taxation, insolvency, property and contract law, criminal law in relation to children and legal aspects of health issues.
Assessment Written (3000 words): 40%
