Objectives On completion of the subject students should have an understanding of the special requirements of financial management in the not-for-profit sector; the principles of managerial accounting and their application to the sector; the framework and operation of financial decision-making in the NFP sector; strategies to mobilise financial resources for NFP organisations including government contracts and fund-raising from a range of sources.
Synopsis The focus of the subject is on the tools of financial analysis and managerial control as they apply to the not-for-profit sector - that is to say, measuring the effectiveness of the NFP organisation and improving upon it. The three key components of the subject are functional areas of financial management (budgeting, accounting and fund-raising), financial relationships and reporting requirements. Contemporary issues in NFP sector financial management - such as compulsory competitive tendering, contracts and performance measurement - are covered.
