Objectives On completion of this subject students should have a general understanding of the Australian legal context in which human resources must be managed, and have gained specific knowledge and some specific skills which will assist them in being able to critically evaluate the literature in the area and to be able to identify human resource management issues which might lend themselves to different methods of management.

Synopsis This subject provides an overview of human resource management with emphasis on the Australian legal context within which human resources management operates and on current theory and research. Topics covered include policy development, ethics, information systems, planning, job analysis, recruitment and selection, performance appraisal, remuneration, superannuation, equal employment opportunity, occupational health and safety, counselling skills, training and development, industrial relations, costing, and research in human resources management.

Assessment Written (3500 words): 35%
* Oral presentation: 15%
* Examination (2 hours): 50%
