Objectives On completion of this subject students should have a thorough understanding of major topics in advanced microeconomics such as general equilibrium and sequential equilibrium, as well as bargaining models; possess technical skills acquired by replicating and assessing the analytical content of research papers; be capable of defining an independent original research agenda.
Synopsis This subject covers advanced topics in neoclassical microeconomics including axioms of revealed preference, integrability of demand functions, and fixed point theorems; game theory including Bayes perfect equilibrium and sequential equilibrium; mesoeconomics - a synthesis of micro- and macroeconomics, and general equilibrium analysis under non-perfect competition; and new classical microeconomics based on the economics of specialisation, transaction costs, and inframarginal analysis.
