Objectives On completion of this subject students will be able to classify different types of innovation; design an innovation strategy appropriate to the organisation; summarise the benefits of well defined innovation and determine the consequent organisation changes; describe the effect of innovation policies on employees, supplies and customers; and the implications for other departments of the organisation.
Synopsis The theme of the subject is the achievement of global competitiveness in manufacturing and service operations through innovation in the Australian context. Areas addressed include innovation strategy, commercialisation of product and service innovations, patents; and creating a culture encouraging innovation. The subject discusses some famous Australian innovations: the different types of innovation that can occur within an organisation and the management of innovation. There is stress on the human, strategic and structural implication of managing innovation for competitive advantage.
