Safety and environmental issues

Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to describe the legislative and regulatory requirements for environment protection, pollution control and safety in the work place; analyse company operations to identify high risk areas in safety, environmental protection and pollution control; identify key parameters to monitor safety and environmental performance and develop appropriate and cost effective monitoring programs; be able to identify effective strategies for manufacturing activities which recognise the environmental priorities of government, public and lobby groups.

Synopsis The management, monitoring and audit procedures associated with safety and environment management. Effective planning, managing and controlling the operational and developmental activities of organisations in relation to safety and the environment. This may use a teaching company format subject which means that up to 50 per cent of the subject may be delivered on the premises of selected organisations.

Assessment Two assignments (2000 words): 25% each
* Examination (2.5 hours): 50%
