Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of information technology and human resources and their place in gaining competitive advantage; have an appreciation of two different HR system models, together with their respective strengths and weaknesses; have an understanding of selection and implementation strategies; have an understanding of how people data can be processed and presented; have a practical working knowledge of a live HR system.

Synopsis The role IT and HR play in gaining competitive advantage; computer technology; information economics including needs analysis and workplace re-design; system models including in-house and packaged; implementation hurdles; using a HR system; using HR data; and strategic issues including key performance indicators.

Assessment Individual written assignment (1500-2000 words): 30%
* Group assignment - including presentation (3000 words approx): 30%
* Examination (2 hours): 40%
