Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should demonstrate an understanding of the legislative, legal and regulatory structures in which the financial planning industry operates; knowledge of banking industry financial services structures, products and career opportunities; have an understanding of the impact of macroeconomic and microeconomic issues on the investment decision; knowledge of capital markets, funding decisions and investment analysis; be able to apply financial mathematics to the investment decision process.
Synopsis An overview of financial planning industry regulation; regulators; dealers; advisers; licences and proper authorities; banking industry financial services; legal system, principles and common law; liability, disclaimers and disclosures; macroeconomic and microeconomic issues; interest rate determination and term structure; capital markets and funding decisions; fundamentals of investment analysis; financial mathematics; professional negligence and duty of care.
Assessment Assignment (2000 words): 30%
* Examination (3 hours): 70%
* Students must pass the examination and gain a minimum 50 marks overall to
pass this subject.
