Chinese banking and finance

Objectives On completion of this subject students should comprehend the financial structure of modern China; appreciate the operational and regulatory aspects of specific types of Chinese financial institutions and markets as well as the role of Shanghai and Hong Kong in China's international capital raisings.

Synopsis Topics include development of China's financial sector and the impact of economic, legal, regulatory and taxation factors; the role and operations of Chinese banks and other financial institutions, money market, bond and share markets and foreign exchange markets; the deregulation of Chinese banking and finance; the role of Shanghai and Hong Kong in China's international capital raisings; the role of foreign financial institutions.

Assessment Research paper (5000-6000 words): 50%
* Examination (3 hours): 50%
