The Graduate Diploma of Business (Accounting) is a fee-paying graduate course by distance education designed primarily for persons with non-accounting degree qualifications occupying management positions in industry or government bodies.
On completion of the course students should:
Applicants require a pass degree in a non-accounting discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average grade of credit or above.
It is strongly recommended that students have access to a personal computer. (Please note that the School of Business and Electronic Commerce is an IBM-compatible Windows environment.) It is also recommended that students have access to a modem to facilitate e-mail communication with teaching staff.
This is a fee-paying graduate course for which no additional liability under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) will be incurred. For a student undertaking the normal workload of two subjects per semester, fees of $800 per subject will apply. An additional fee will also apply for amenities and library services. Fees paid may be tax deductible in accordance with Section 51(i) of the Income Tax Assessment Act, but students will need to determine their own tax position. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
The Graduate Diploma in Accounting is normally completed in six semesters of part-time study.
This course is offered by distance education from the School of Business and Electronic Commerce.
Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of six credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.
Completion of the Graduate Diploma of Accounting will enable graduates to meet the academic requirements for admission to the CPA program of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants and the professional year program of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
The course consists of twelve subjects of study taken over two or more years by distance education. It is expected that those wishing to undertake such a course will be in employment and will undertake the course outside normal working hours. The distance education mode is particularly appropriate for such people, and the work experience of students will enable them to understand the concepts more rapidly.
