General

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resources is designed primarily for graduates from a range of disciplines who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in the area of managing employment relations, including human resource management and industrial relations.

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. Applicants without a first degree who have a minimum of six years appropriate employment experience should refer to the section on executive certificates.

Technology requirements

It is strongly recommended that students have access to a personal computer. (Please note that the School of Business and Electronic Commerce is an IBM-compatible Windows environment.) It is also recommended that students have access to a modem to facilitate e-mail communication with teaching staff.

Fees

This is a fee-paying graduate course for which no additional liability under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) will be incurred. For a student undertaking the normal workload of two subjects per semester, fees of $800 per subject will apply. An additional fee will also apply for amenities and library services. Fees paid may be tax deductible in accordance with Section 51(i) of the Income Tax Assessment Act, but students will need to determine their own tax position. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Mode of offering

This course is offered by distance education from the School of Business and Electronic Commerce.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of two credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

Course structure

This course in composed of four subjects, usually completed over a twelve month period of study. Students may, however, take up to a maximum of two years to complete this course. Students select their study program from the following subjects.

Additionally, students may select, with the approval of the course director, any other graduate level subject that satisfies the objectives and standards of this course. To qualify for the award, a minimum of twenty-four credit points must be earned.

Progression to further studies

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Human Resources may apply for admission to either the Graduate Diploma of Business (Labour Management Relations) or the Graduate Diploma of Business (Management).

Application procedures

Applications close the first week in February (first intake) and the first week in June (second intake). Fees are payable on acceptance of an offer. An administration fee is payable for those students who withdraw from the course before 31 March (first intake) and 31 August (second intake).
