Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate a sound basic knowledge of the requirements of welfare practice, application of this knowledge in processes of synthesis, analysis and evaluation based on case studies. Also an awareness of the interaction between personal beliefs, professional ethics and agency policy.
Synopsis Knowledge, values and skills in welfare practice. Introduction to social casework, groupwork in welfare practice, and the welfare interview. Compulsory five-day residential workshop preceding and during the third weekend school of the semester. Students will have been made aware of this, and agreed to attend, during the selection process. Teleconference discussion with the subject adviser will be available to students.
