Objectives On completion of this subject students will have gained an insight into bio-psycho-social theory. They will understand how the senses, nervous system and brain work together to define the environment; what causes emotion and stress; how we are motivated to achieve goals; the principals of learning theory and the role of culture in developing the individual.

Synopsis The subject is designed to introduce students to some basic concepts related to understanding human behaviour such as human perception, learning, memory, motivation, emotion and thinking. It relates theories of human behaviour to the student's own life experiences and areas of future work in the social welfare field.

Assessment Journal: 50%
* Essay: 50%
