Objectives On completion of the subject students will have gained practical experience in human service organisation, with particular emphasis in gaining an understanding of the role of the welfare worker, and the legal organisational knowledge and skills needed to fulfil this role, as well as an appreciation of the importance of the law in welfare practices.
Synopsis This subject will examine two areas of organisational practice: management and organisational theory, and law. Topics include organisational structure, management theory, teamwork and administrative skills necessary for effective organisational practice, how laws are made, the role of the welfare worker in relation to the law, and specific areas of law which are relevant to organisations, workers and clients. This subject will also include a compulsory sixteen day fieldwork education placement for both on-campus and distance education students, the aim of which is to integrate relevant organisational and legal theory and practice. Distance education students should note that there are no weekend or residential schools in this subject.
Assessment Field education placement workbook (2000-2500 words): 50%
* Law assignment (2500 words): 50%
* Both pieces of assessment must be
passed to achieve a pass in the subject.
