Dynamics of Koorie language B

Objectives Student successfully completing this subject will have developed and refined their skills in Bundjalung language, including text analysis and construction, the application of broad phonetic symbols, and will understand the relationship between language and culture.

Synopsis Students will extend their fluency and control of the Bundjalung language, develop more skills in handling phonetic transcriptions, and learn what is known of the Gippsland area languages, in particular Ganai/Kurnai also looking at the dynamics of other Aboriginal languages around Australia, ie Western Desert. Practical application of these skills will be further tested in role plays, dictation tests, and oral and written work. Instruction takes place through lectures, language practice and tutorials. The students are encouraged to speak in the Bundjalung language in class as part of the learning process.

Assessment Dictation test: 10%
* Translation task: 10%
* Final oral assessment: 40%
* Final written test: 40%
