Objectives By the end of the semester, students undertaking this subject should have undertaken an investigation of specific and representative works in the orchestral repertoire for either the symphonic wind ensemble, orchestra or choir. Students should also have developed an approach to assessing Western musical traditions from the Middle Ages to the Classical period.
Synopsis Orchestral and choral rehearsals and performance are underpinned by lectures on the history and theory of the Western tradition. Different works from various periods are performed each semester. Note: BPA vocal students receive special vocal and music theatre production training.
Assessment Written (2000 words): 30%
* Practical examination/Concert
performance: 70%
