Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will be able to create their own home page; write a clear set of technical instructions; use persuasive techniques in technical writing; design clear user documentation; use a CD ROM library catalogue; and use Netscape and Web search engines for research purposes.

Synopsis This subject deals with principles of technical writing and is a basis for students intersted in specialising in technical writing as a profession as well as for students wanting to improve their technical writing abilities. Topics covered include using html for the design of Web pages, principles of layout and design for technical writing, instructional writing, persuasion and technical writing, principles of effective user documentation, spreadsheet graphics and use of a CD ROM catalogue for library research as well as Netscape and Web search engines.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 50%
* One compulsory library assignment: 5%
* One Netscape assignment: 5%
* One web design assignment: 20%
* One documentation assignment: 10%
* One spreadsheet graphics assignment: 10%
