Objectives Students are expected to read all of the prescribed texts either in the original language (MGR students) or in English (CLS students), and to demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which authorial attitude is conveyed in literary works; of the ways in which the choice of language affects the presentation of cultural reality; of the literary politics of `multicultural' Australia and the position taken by Greek-Australian authors in the debate on multiculturalism; and of the attitudes towards Greece and Australia which are conveyed in the prescribed texts.
Synopsis A survey of the contribution made by Greek-Australians to Australian and Greek literature. Literary works written in both Greek and English will be studied and, in particular, the work of first-generation Greek-Australians will be compared and contrasted to that of later generations.
