The archaeology of the Dakhleh Oasis, Egypt

Objectives To provide a detailed knowledge of the history and archaeology of human settlement in the Neolithic to Roman periods, an understanding of the importance of environmental factors on cultural evolution and to assess the application of various theoretical models of cultural evolution with particular reference to Dakhleh Oasis.

Synopsis The subject will investigate the archaeology of this region in the Egyptian Sahara as revealed by field work carried out primarily since 1977. It will deal with the latest trends and developments in Egyptian archaeology using recently excavated material as a case study.

Assessment Two essays (3000 words each): 100%
