Objectives To analyse in detail key themes in Egyptian interaction with other Mediterranean cultures with specific reference to surviving archaeological data.
Synopsis The subject provides a detailed description and analysis of ancient Egyptian culture at its height during its best documented phase, the New Kingdom or Empire (Dynasties XVIII-XX; 1550-1069 BCE). It will examine the evidence of texts, monuments and archaeological data. A main theme to be developed is Egypt in the wider context of the ancient Mediterranean world of the Late Bronze Age.

Assessment fourth year Two essays (3000 words each): 100%
* Honours
students will be directed to additional reading which will furnish the basis
for differential assessment.
