Objectives Students successfully completing the unit should have gained an understanding of Javanese literary works in their cultural and historical context and a familiarity with Old Javanese grammar.
Synopsis This subject introduces an older phase of the Javanese language and familiarise students with both literary products in the language and the cultural and historical context within which they were created. It takes selections from the Adiparwa as material for a discussion of aspects of Old Javanese grammar.
Assessment Examinations (2 hours): 60%
* Marked translations: 40%
