Intermediate business Chinese, part 1

* Prerequisites: VCE Chinese (CSL) or equivalent. Recognition of characters in Practical Chinese Reader I assumed. Students who have passed the first language stream of VCE Chinese are not permitted to enrol in this subject and will be required to sit for a placement test to determine their Chinese language proficiency.

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should have developed further spoken and written language skills; skills to read simplified materials; the ability to write general letters requesting information; vocabulary useful in some business situations and an understanding of current affairs in China.

Synopsis Intermediate level spoken and written Chinese; intermediate level readings; readings (in English) on Chinese current affairs.

Assessment Two examinations (2 hours each): 50%
* Weekly assignments: 20%
* Aural/oral tests: 30%
