Students who satisfy conditions for the honours program may qualify to enrol for part 1 of the two-year MA program, run in the department. Part 1 of the MA program normally requires a full year's study. Part 2 of the program usually requires a second year of full-time study. These programs are available on a full-time or part-time basis. Three MA programs are offered in the department: the MA in Japanese studies, the MA in Japanese business interpreting and translation, and the MA in applied Japanese linguistics. For postgraduate subjects offered by the department, students should refer to the Arts graduate handbook for 1997 or to the postgraduate course brochure which is available from the Department of Japanese Studies.
