Advanced practice skills for human services A

Objectives On completion of this subject students can expect to be familiar with a number of therapeutic approaches; have enhanced their understanding of the process of counselling and of therapeutic change; have an increased intellectual and experiential understanding of the role of reflecting teams; have an enhanced proficiency with a range of therapeutic interventions.

Synopsis This subject involves the study of the following topics: reflecting teams; strategic therapies; voice dialogue; construction, deconstruction and narrative therapies; solution focussed therapies; externalising problems; the use of metaphor; empathy; transference; working with the unconscious; resistance and ending.

Assessment Written tutorial report (1500 words) and presentation: 30%
* Written essay set topic (4500 words): 70%
