Intermediate Indonesian, part 2

Objectives On succesful completion of this subject, students should have developed a further understanding of the Indonesian language, have a command of an expanded vocabulary, new and more complex syntax and new oral conventions. They should be able to put into practice that newly acquired knowledge to communicate in more complex daily life situations. They should also have gained an understanding of the Indonesian/Malay language, with particular reference to its relationship with neighbouring languages, its historical development and its achievement of the status of national language of Indonesia.

Synopsis Literary prose and poetry are read and analysed in the first of two weekly lectures. The second lecture is devoted to a discussion of the Malay language and its development as Indonesian.

Assessment Written (750 words): 25%
* Examination (2 hours): 50%
* Two tests: 25%
