Objectives of the centre

The purposes of the centre are to undertake research into such fields as Aboriginal contact with the criminal justice system, demography, legal status, health, employment, education, housing, land rights and social change, and to publish the results of such research as discussion papers and/or in academic journals. The centre also acts as a resource centre for university staff and students, as well as the general public, through the Elizabeth Eggleston Resource Centre. The current director of the centre is Ms Sharon Firebrace.

The centre's most recent research interest has been Aboriginal contact with Victoria's criminal justice system and the implementation by governments of the recommendations of the Royal Commission Into Aboriginal Deaths In Custody. A number of discussion papers have recently been published by the centre, and a number published in academic journals. The centre also organises regular public lectures on indigenous issues within the university.
