Objectives On completion of this subject students should have acquired an understanding of the linguistic analysis of the structural organisation of spoken French through systematic study of phonetics and phonemics.
Synopsis The purpose of this subject is to provide an introduction to the study of spoken French. Following a brief linguistic overview of French, two major structural areas will be considered: phonetics and phonemics. The phonetics component will analyse the actual sounds of French, their production, articulatory description, and phonetic transcription. The phonemics segment of the subject focuses upon the systematic organisation and distinctive features of the French sound system.
Assessment Tutorial quizzes: 20%
