These are fee-paying programs ($7200 a year for local students, $12,000 a year for international students) administered jointly by the Graduate School of Government and the Department of Politics. For details of the two programs in 1997, see the separate brochure produced by the Graduate School of Government. Within the Department of Politics, copies of the brochure and further information may be obtained from the head of the department and the postgraduate coordinator.
Students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Arts (International Relations) may choose one of their subjects from among the subjects listed for the Graduate Diploma of Arts (Diplomacy and Trade). Students enrolled in the Master of Arts in international relations by coursework may choose one of their subjects from among the subjects listed for the Master of Arts in diplomacy and trade.
The subjects listed above for the Graduate Diploma of Arts (International Relations) and the Master of Arts in international relations serve also as elective subjects for the corresponding diplomacy and trade programs.
Please note that all subject have a twelve-point weighting when taken within the international relations programs and an eight-point weighting when taken within the diplomacy and trade programs. The assessment for subjects whose primary listing is as twelve-point subjects in international relations can be found in the subject descriptions below. When these subjects are taken as eight-point subjects in diplomacy and trade, the assessment is one essay (3000 words), 50%; a further essay or equivalent (3000 words), 50%, or one 3-hour examination, 50%. The assessment for subjects whose primary listing is in diplomacy and trade is set out in the diplomacy and trade course brochure.
