Photography

6 points * One 2-hour tutorial class/workshop per week * Full-year subject * Caulfield * Prerequisites: GDN2130.

Objectives On successful completion of this subject the student should be able to demonstrate an advanced level of photographic production and art direction through applied studio and location techniques, including the use of medium and large format cameras, and studio lighting; show an advanced critical understanding of the medium; incorporate design and photography into production; and produce photographic work suitable for folio presentation in black and white and colour.

Synopsis Through a series of studio and location based projects students will develop their knowledge of the appropriate camera and lighting equipment, and further develop their use of photographic imaging techniques, including computer based imagery. The projects will include designed and art directed images to be made in conjunction with a photographer. The students will develop their understanding of various aspects of the applied photographic image incorporated in design, such as word/image, advertising layout and multimedia image manufacture.

Assessment Six major projects: 85% * Diary/journal: 15%
