Illustration

4 points * One studio hour and one 1-hour lecture per week * Full-year subject * Caulfield * Prerequisites: Satisfactory completion of first-year graphic design studies

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should be able to use and experiment with a wide variety of illustration media ranging from traditional techniques to the Macintosh computer; understand the communicative role illustration plays in the practice of graphic design; apply illustration to greater design problems such as editorial layout and poster design; demonstrate their ability to apply principles of design, including composition, layout and concept development, through illustration assignments; develop and refine a style that suits their individual capabilities.

Synopsis Projects involve experimentation with concept, composition layout and techniques. Students apply their illustration skills to practical design problems involving type and particular formats and philosophies.

Assessment Major projects: 60% * Minor projects: 40%
