Computer studies

4 points * One studio hour and one 1-hour lecture per week * Full-year subject * Caulfield * Prerequisites: GDN1170

Objectives On the successful completion of this subject students should be able to use the computer as an effective design tool; have an understanding of how to create basic colour files for full colour output to a service bureau; freehand draw with input devices, mouse and digitising tablet; create and use multi-layered documents; create and understand basic colour separations; use colour in both page layout and illustration programs; create computer artwork for a variety of purposes, such as newspaper advertising, packaging, posters etc.

Synopsis Students will gain an understanding of the strengths of a variety of software programs by using them to translate design concepts into finished art and presentation prints. Students will also be encouraged to use the computer in more creative ways, and to experiment with layouts that incorporate the various software's capabilities. Students receive an introduction to scanning images into a digital format.

Assessment Major projects: 60% * Minor projects: 40%
