Technology 4

8 points * 4 studio hours and 2 lecture hours per week * Second semester * Caulfield * Prerequisites: DES2003

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should be able to construct three dimensional models of plastic products; manufacture functional models and prototypes detailed appropriately to communicate design information for management and manufacturing decision-making; demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing processes and their influence on design; and understand and apply the principles of common electronic devices as integral components of consumer product design.

Synopsis The extensive subject content has been arranged to develop knowledge and skills in applied electronics, manufacturing technology, three dimensional modelling and prototype construction all in the context of product design and export-oriented manufacturing.

Assessment Assessment of finished models: 30% * Applied electronics examination: 40% * Materials and manufacturing examination 30%
