Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should be able to model design concepts by means of formal engineering drawings; carry out simple dimensional analyses of product designs; apply appropriate drawing and dimensioning conventions of the AS1100 series of Australian standards; source and apply anthropometric data as required in specific design projects; and represent design concepts through three dimensional models produced with common materials and simple manufacturing technology.
Synopsis The subject establishes principles of formal engineering and geometrical drawing, including an introduction to dimensioning and tolerancing of product designs; it provides an introduction to the theory and practice of ergonomics for designers; and develops basic three dimensional modelling skills. Topics include engineering drawing, orthographic projection, pictorial drawing, constructional methods, dimensioning and presentation rules, principles of anthropometrics, ergonomics in seating and workspace design, and the principles and practice of model making using simple technology.
