Studio practice (clay)

36 points * 15 studio hours per week * Full-year subject * Caulfield

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate abilities in the manipulation of clay and joining techniques; understand the creative potential of clay, its uses in a functional and non-functional way; demonstrate an understanding of firing procedures and document the processes; appreciate basic design, in particular form, proportion, function and surface treatment.

Synopsis Students will be given lectures, demonstrations and audiovisual material on clay manipulation, wheel work, hand building and surface treatment techniques. Emphasis is placed on aesthetic development and experiment as well as the importance of safety procedures and the correct handling of toxic materials.

Assessment Folio: 80% * Studio research diary: 20%
