Twentieth-century Spanish American literature

Synopsis The second half of the twentieth century has witnessed a sudden
explosion in literary activity among Spanish American writers, characterised by
dazzlingly innovative and experimental novels. This course will concentrate on
developments in Hispanic American literature since the late 1950s, a period
referred to as the `boom' in Latin American fiction. It will be represented by
writers from Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Audio-visual material will
be used to examine specific themes and writing.
Assessment Written (4000 words): 70% + Examination (2 hours): 30%
