Synopsis The period opens gloriously with the revolution of 1868 and closes disastrously with the outbreak of civil war in 1936. Between these dates, the question of the national and spiritual renewal of one of the most glorious nations of Europe preoccupied politicians and writers alike. Through literary texts, painting and film, the subject studies the clash between tradition and innovation, the will to independence and the will to revolution, and the emergence of modern Spanish poetry, drama and narrative.
