8 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: MUS2110, MUS2120 + Corequisites: At least three other third-year subjects in music

Synopsis The subject familiarises students with various research methods appropriate to musicology, focussing on the practical aspects of historical musicology and ethnomusicology, and concentrating on methodologies associated with bibliographic studies, textual criticism, archival research, organology, iconography and performance practice. The subject involves information sharing and critical assessment.

Assessment Written (4000 words): 60% + Assignments (2000 words): 40%
