Twentieth-century compositional techniques

Synopsis A practical overview of the techniques underpinning the prominent styles and genres in late twentieth-century composition. Emphasis is placed on the student acquiring a working knowledge of the most common applications of contemporary technology to musical composition such as digital recording, sampling, sequencing and notation by means of group and individual laboratory sessions. This subject is also available for BMus performance majprs as a four-point subject.

Assessment (8 points) Written (1000 words): 65% + Composition project (5000 words or practical equivalent): 35%.

Assessment (4 points) Written (500 words): 65% + Composition project (2500 words or practical equivalent): 35%
