Synopsis This introductory performance-based subject acquaints students with the basic theory and practice of Central Javanese gamelan (instrumental and vocal music), dance and shadow puppet theatre (wayang kulit) accompaniement. Also examined are interrelationships between these perfoming arts, history and cultural context, sociology of performance, and ethnomusicological performance theory.
Assessment Written (2000 words): 25% + Written/oral assignments: 15% + Performance assignments and concert: 50% + Examinations (1 hour): 10%
