6 points + 3 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Prerequisites:
Normally ENH1111 or CLS1010 + Prohibition: CLS1020
Synopsis Continuing the work of `Text and context I', this subject looks
at the interactions between texts and their contexts - historical, social,
linguistic, cultural, ideological, and personal. Using a wide range of examples
we will consider the interactions between language and ideology, context and
meaning. The key role of narrative in culture will be explored.
Assessment Written (1500 words): 30% + Examinations (2 hours): 20% +
Practical work/seminar participation: 50%
