Synopsis This subject will introduce students to the ways in which meanings are communicated in the theatre and to the theoretical implications of those processes. The emphasis in seminars will be on the relationship between text and performance, and this will normally involve intensive work on particular sequences from the plays. While the subject is not concerned with the teaching or assessment of performance skills in themselves, and will not assume any level of expertise of that kind, participation in these activities will be a requirement. This subject is a prerequisite for students intending to complete either a minor or major sequence in drama and theatre studies.
