In undertaking art history and theory units, students examine a broad range of mediums and movements, from painting to post-modernism. They develop the critical analysis and writing skills that art critics, historians and curators use to create exhibition reviews, catalogue essays, curatorial statements and artist's statements. Industrial designers develop products that improve society, enrich our culture and contribute to our economy - from furniture and smart phones, to domestic appliances and public transport. By applying their understanding of materials, manufacturing and how people use products, industrial designers combine technical innovation with aesthetics to create beautiful, functional products. Industrial design at Monash is studio-focused so it prepares students to become professional industrial designers. Students develop the practical skills and conceptual capabilities to succeed. By final year students can confidently work to a brief and develop an effective, attractive and marketable product, from initial concept to final prototype.

Interior architecture professionals design spatial experiences by combining their understanding of how people engage with the world, with their knowledge of structures and environments. They create spaces that communicate ideas and stories. Interior architecture at Monash enables students to study and shape the built environment inside commercial, cultural and domestic buildings. Students develop the ability to generate design concepts, seek creative solutions and use innovative construction technologies. Graduates of interior architecture may transform large scale spaces in the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings, or focus on the small detail in designing furniture for theatre sets, or even curate media and technologies when designing exhibitions.
