Synopsis

Public health consequences of complex humanitarian emergencies involving armed conflict, population displacement, food scarcity and an outline of the critical public health interventions in these settings.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to:

analyse the casual factors of public health emergencies related to conflict and population displacement;
identify the major public health and nutrition priorities in humanitarian crises;
develop relevant public health assessment and response skills in emergency settings;
recognise the need for a multisectoral approach to reducing the health impact of emergencies.
