Notes
This Master of Teaching specialisation qualifies graduates to teach children from five to 12 years of age in primary schools. Students develop an understanding of learning at the heart of teaching and acquire a perspective of teaching as the power to change. They develop their understanding of teaching and learning theories for primary school children based on contemporary education issues and child development, and focus on the key elements of the primary curriculum including English and literacies, mathematics, arts, humanities and social education, science, and health and physical education. Students develop their abilities to practise and report on effective assessment of children's development. They learn how inclusive practices meet a diversity of student needs and build a repertoire of strategies to manage classroom settings. Professional understanding and skills are extended through 60 days of supervised professional experience, and students learn to generate and reflect on evidence to evaluate their practice and build professional judgement. This specialisation prepares students to become effective and proactive leaders and educators in primary education.
