Description

The study of early childhood and early childhood/primary education involves:

  • gaining a deep understanding of childhood development, educational theories and practice and how to involve children in engaging, innovative and purposeful learning in the early years of life
  • learning through supervised early childhood education professional experiences
  • becoming qualified as an early childhood educator for a range of child care and pre-school settings
  • becoming qualified to teach in primary schools as well as early childhood settings in the dual early childhood/primary course
  • gaining the knowledge and skills needed for employment in other children's services and specialist early childhood settings.

Requirements

Students in 4223 Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and 4224 Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood/Primary) complete the following units for years 1 to 3 in the education major, curriculum major, early childhood educational leadership, and professional experience sections.

The separate year 4 requirements for each of the courses are also outlined below.
