The momentum, energy and mass transfer analogy. Molecular/Diffusive transport mechanisms. Shell balances for one-dimensional transport. Equations of change for general continuum transport. Turbulent transport. Applications to engineering contexts: aeronautics and industrial systems. Applications to biological & physiological contexts: cellular (intracellular and transcellular) and organ (respiratory, cardiovascular, kidney) systems. Applications to pathology, treatment and diagnostics.
Examination (3 hours, Open Book): 65%
Project work (Literature Research Paper): 20%
Assignments (15%)
5 hours of contact teaching time based on a mix of lectures and problem based learning classes in addition to 6 hours of private study per week.
