Synopsis

This unit introduces pre-service undergraduate students to the key concepts and practical applications of curriculum, curriculum theory and curricular assessment and evaluation, in Prep to Year 10 classroom contexts.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this unit students should be able to:

  • understand the basic principles of curriculum theory
  • understand how to develop curriculum material across academic disciplines
  • write curriculum with and for diverse communities and learners
  • write curriculum that serves the ends of social justice for all, and particularly for disadvantaged student populations and school communities
  • understand how to put in place and run assessment and evaluation systems to gauge the effectiveness of such curriculum
  • evaluate, critique and redesign existing curricular content across academic disciplines
  • develop connections to and affinities towards professional, community-based, regional, national and international educational curriculum organisations and movements.

Assessment

Assessment Task 1: Portfolio of task, equivalent to 2000 words (50%)
Assessment Task 2: Successful completion of practicum. Pass Grade Only (50%)
